The user is able to design a smart fabric using 3 stages of design software:


  1. CREATIF Collaborative Tool: Allows the user to add the smart fabric functions to a colorred design or a plain background. The coloured design must first be produced in Adobe Illustrator or an alternative drawing package and imported to the Collaborative tool in .dxf format.
  2. CREATIF Translation Tool: Translates the user’s design to the layers which must be printed to realise the smart fabric.
  3. CREATIF Visualisation Tool: Allows the user to see a visual representation of what the smart fabric will look like and set parameters for the smart functions.

Several smart fabric functions can be incorporated on the smart fabric. The following smart functions are currently available when used with the standard control electronics:

  • Electroluminescent. Up to 16 electroluminescent areas can be included on the smart fabric. An example lamp is shown here. Parameters which can be set in the visualisation tool are: brightness; time before turning on; time on; time off; if activated by a proximity sensor event or not.
  • Thermochromic: Up to 2 thermochromic areas can be included in the design. An example is shown here. Parameters which can be set in the visualisation tool are: time before transition; time transparent (on time); time opaque; if activated by a proximity sensor event or not.
  • Speaker: 1 spiral speaker can be included in the design. An example is shown here. Parameters which can be set in the visualisation tool are: volume; time before turning on; on time; off time; if activated by a proximity sensor event or not.
  • Proximity sensing, Up to 3 proximity sensors can be included in the design. These can be linked to the thermochromic or electroluminescent designs, An example of a standalone proximity sensor is shown here. An example linked to a electroluminescent lamp is shown here. Parameters which can be set in the visualisation tool are: range at which a proximity sensor event is detected.

Once the design is complete the user can click send to send the design. A quotation for the cost of printing will then be sent to the user. Once the user places an order the smart fabric is remotely printed out and shipped to the user together with the associated electronics.
